This is a remarkably graceful wood sculpture by a talented wood artist named Salve, about whom we know little. The beautiful woman seems to be emerging fully formed from the wood, elegant, peaceful and impressive. The carved face is smooth, the live edge is of course not as polished by design…clearly the artist was informed by the wood itself as to what this woman would be, which is even more evident when you see the other Salve carved wooden bust we have on offer as well. Both are signed by the artist, this one in 1962. This one seems to be meant as a gift for one Dick Riss, but Mr. Riss and/or his family let her go, inexplicably. She is gorgeous.

Solid wood, quite substantial.
