Given to “The biggest bull shipper on Smith River” as a Christmas gift in 1970, this large and professionally framed charcoal nude is striking. According to the note on the back, this nude woman juxtaposed with cuts of meat is "Where It's At”…which most be an inside joke between the artist/gift-giver and his friend the meat purveyor in Montana. Because we don’t really think that this drawing necessarily captured the zeitgeist of 1970. More like 1950? But maybe it was a commentary on what it means to objectify a woman, reducing her to..well, meat. Then maybe more 1970-ish? Whatever the intentions and larger social context, it was drawn by a talented artist and it is in great condition all around.
